The Parent Teachers Association at Great
Waltham School was formed in 1976 and renamed the Friends of Great
Waltham School (FOGWS) in September 1997. It is affiliated to the
National Confederation of Parent Teachers Association and all
school staff and parents of children at the school are members.
There is no membership fee. The object of the FOGWS is to help
provide facilities that will enhance the education of the pupils
at the school. Further to this the association aims to foster more
effective relationships between the staff, parents, and others
connected with the school and also to engage in activities which
support the school and advance the education of its pupils.
The Friends of Great Waltham School (FOGWS) runs various events
throughout the school year for the enjoyment of our children and
their families and to raise funds for equipment and activities in
addition to those provided by the school budget.
In the
past we have run pancake races, had a decorate the egg
competition, produced a commemorative tea-towel featuring
self-portraits of all the children, enjoyed an evening concert for
the children by local singer Kimberlyn and organised a fantastic
Summer Fayre which by itself raised over £1000. From the proceeds
of these and earlier events we have been delighted to pay for,
amongst other things, the whole school to go to the Civic Theatre
to see the Christmas pantomime, a brand new climbing frame for our
outdoor adventure trail, tracksuits and sports kit with the school
logo for teams competing in inter-school competitions and a
complete set of staging for use during plays, assemblies and
concerts. In addition we have funds in place for the purchase of a
new ball wall to practice outdoor ball skills and a new indoor
climbing frame for P.E.
The Friends consists of a small but very friendly group of parents who
meet roughly once a month to organise current events and plan for
new ones. We are always delighted to welcome new members or to
receive ideas for future events or activities so if you would like
to get in touch at any time we can be contacted either directly
(Helen Mansfield 07772 382403 or by e-mail at
helen.mansfield007@btinternet.com) or with a note via the class
pouch system.
