Eco-Schools

The Government in England wants every school to be a sustainable school by 2020. Great Waltham C of E will be starting to work towards being awarded eco-school status from September 2009. Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life.

We are giving a kick start to our school’s bid to become a more sustainable school with a fortnight of activities, commencing Monday 21st September. We will have visits from organisations such as Anglian Water, The Essex Waste Education Team and The Essex Wildlife Trust. The staff will start the week with a presentation and quizzes to set the scene, which will include hands on experience of solar panels and a wind turbine!! The event will conclude with a Theatre production in school from the Quantum Theatre.

At the end of the events, we will be forming an Eco Committee consisting of adults and pupils, which we hope will be led by some eco enthusiastic children! This committee will then work towards the Eco Awards for schools.

We hope you will support us in this venture by extending discussions on the subject at home!
